Edward Flood, Chairman and Director
Mr. Flood, age 63, is currently Deputy Director, Investment Banking, Haywood Securities (UK) Limited. Mr. Flood was previously the Deputy Chairman of Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (“Ivanhoe”) and was Ivanhoe’s founding President. Mr. Flood has over 35 years of experience in the international mining field has helped guide Ivanhoe's growth and established the company as a significant presence in Asia's mineral exploration and mining sectors. Prior to joining Ivanhoe, Mr. Flood was a principal at Robertson Stephens & Co., an investment bank in San Francisco, USA. He was a member of the Robertson Stephens' investment team for the Contrarian Fund, a public mutual fund concentrated on natural resources development projects around the world. Mr. Flood has held the position of senior mining analyst with a prominent Canadian securities firm. He holds a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in Geology.
Jay Chmelauskas, President
Mr. Chmelauskas was most recently President and CEO of Jinshan Gold Mines, Inc. In this position he successfully managed and led the company during all phases of the commissioning of one of China’s largest open pit gold mines. In addition to his considerable experience in the exploration, development, and mining industry, Jay has held key positions with companies in the chemical manufacturing industry, including Lead Analyst with Methanex Corporation where he was involved with a $250 million chemical plant expansion in Chile. His experience in both the chemical and mining industries is well suited to lead Western Lithium forward during the near term phases of development, product marketing and production.
Mr. Chmelauskas has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Geological Engineering, University of British Columbia and a Master of Business Administration, Queen’s University.
Dennis Bryan, Senior Vice President
Mr. Bryan brings over 35 years of experience to Western Lithium from the industrial minerals industry. He has been involved in all aspects of the industrial minerals field including exploration, product marketing, and mine development. He has been actively associated with the Company’s lithium exploration and development project for 12 months in the role as Project Consultant prior to his appointment as Senior Vice President of Development. Mr. Bryan holds a Bachelor of Science in Geological Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and a Master of Science, Geology from the Mackay School of Mines, University of Nevada.
Pamela J. Klessig, P. Geo., Director
Ms. Klessig has over 27 years of experience in global mineral exploration, development and production. She began her career with Homestake Mining Company working as the mine geologist at the company’s uranium Pitch Mine in Colorado. Ms. Klessig also worked for Cyprus Minerals, Amselco, BP Minerals, Kennecott and Gencor where she held positions ranging from exploration geologist to exploration manager of Mexico. In addition to her considerable exploration experience, Ms. Klessig has been a member of feasibility teams working on engineering studies, mine planning, and metallurgical projects for reserve and feasibility studies conducted on a variety of projects by BP Minerals. Ms. Klessig also worked for Indochina Goldfields, now Ivanhoe Mines, during the Initial Public Offering as the Vice President of Investor Relations. As a complement to her technical expertise she obtained her U.S. Series 7 brokerage license and worked as a stockbroker for four years with A.G. Edwards and Sons, Inc. Ms. Klessig holds a Bachelor in geology from Western State College and is a Certified Professional Geologist as defined by the American Institute of Professional Geologists and is a qualified person as defined by NI 43-101 standards.
William Sheriff, Director
Mr. Sheriff, age 49, served as the Chairman of the Board and Executive Vice President of Energy Metals Corp. prior to its acquisition by Uranium One in August 2007. Over the course of a 27 year career in the mining industry, Mr. Sheriff has held positions with a number of mining and mineral exploration companies, including Cypress Minerals – AMOCO and Amselco Exploration. He was founder and President of Platoro West Incorporated, a minerals exploration firm specializing in project identification and acquisition in the western USA. Mr. Sheriff currently serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Golden Predator Mines Corp., a tungsten-gold company that is currently privately held but is soon to be listed on the Exchange. His is also the President of Pacific Intermountain Gold Corporation, a private corporation owned by Seabridge Gold Corporation. Mr. Sheriff is a director of Uranium One, Midway Gold Corp., Artha Resources, Bluerock Resources and Eurasian Minerals Inc. Mr. Sheriff received his BSc in Geology from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado and conducted graduate studies at the University of Texas-El Paso in Mining Geology and Mineral Economics.
William R. Haldane, Director
Mr. Haldane, age 59, grew up in Ireland, worked for several major advertising agencies in New York before joining Russell Reynolds, then Heidrick & Struggles. In 1995, he founded and is the President of Haldane Diogenes, Inc., an executive recruiting company. Over the last 20 years, Mr. Haldane has been very successful in senior level recruiting in mining around the world. His clients span the Americas, Asia-Pacific, Africa and Europe. Mr. Haldane has Business and M.A. degrees from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.
John Macken, Director
Mr. Macken, age 56, joined Ivanhoe Mines (IVN.NYSX) in December 2003 as a director and in January 2004 assumed the role of President. He has served as President and Chief Executive Officer since March 2006. Mr. Macken joined Ivanhoe Mines after a 19 year career with mining giant Freeport McMoran Copper and Gold, most recently as Freeport’s Senior Vice-President of Strategic Planning and Development, based in New Orleans. He spent a total of 12 years with Freeport’s operating unit, P.T. Freeport Indonesia, culminating in the position of Executive Vice-President and General Manager at Freeport’s Grasberg mining complex in Papua, the world’s largest single copper and gold mine. Mr. Macken is the chairman of Ivanhoe’s coal subsidiary, Southgobi Energy Resources (SGO.TSX). Mr. Macken holds an engineering degree BA, BAI from Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland.
Eduard Epstein, CA, Chief Financial Officer
Eduard Epshtein, age 34, is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Diploma of Technology with Honours in Financial Management from the British Columbia Institute of Technology. He started his accounting career with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, specializing in providing audit and assurance services to medium to large public mining companies during which time he gained valuable exposure to the industry's best practices for governance, disclosure and accounting. Later he moved from auditing public practice to industry, becoming a corporate controller for a group of junior exploration companies where he managed the financial reporting and Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliance for SEC registered companies. As an associate of J. Proust & Associates Inc. Mr. Epshtein gained hands-on experience working with public companies on mergers and acquisitions, strategy, financings and IPOs. He currently also serves as a CFO for Western Uranium Corporation, Canada Energy Partners Inc. and Southern Arc Minerals Inc., all TSX Venture Exchange listed companies.
